Who’s excited for Christmas? I know this may seem too early, but please bear with me here. I absolutely love Christmas and get really excited every year. This Christmas, however, my family has decided to go abroad, so we will not be celebrating at home like we usually do. I know that the most important thing is to be together and all that, but I am still allowing myself to get excited extra early, and to decorate my apartment to the nines in order to get in the spirit before we go.
If you are curious about how we celebrate Christmas in Norway, here’s my full guide to Norwegian Christmas traditions!
Anyway, this post isn’t supposed to be about Christmas (or even December). It’s an October round-up, so I’m going to calm myself down a little, and start focusing on what’s behind me for a little while. If you are curious about what I did in October, what blog posts I published, and how I feel about the month in general, keep reading!
October saw a lot of freelancing for me, and as this is a question I often get (especially from Norwegians who want to get started freelancing), I thought I would share a clever resource with you. I got started freelancing with TopContent, which is an online freelancer portal that is so easy to use! Basically, you have a list of available articles that need to be written, and if you are up for any of them, you simply “grab it” by clicking a button. Then, the system assigns it to you, and you can get to writing! So, if you are an aspiring writer; I strongly recommend joining their program here. Let me know if you want me to write a post about working through TopContent, how I find it and my advice!

October blog posts
October flew by, and I spent most of the time getting into a good routine at home in Bergen, decorating my apartment, and waiting for November. This month I have two exciting trips in a row, which means that the month will disappear pretty quickly!
Of course, I managed to produce some content in October as well, and always love sharing it in these roundups. If you missed any of these, go ahead and have a read now! And if you want to ensure you don’t miss any more, why not follow me on Bloglovin?
As you may know, I visited Sweden in September, and so I had a lot of content I wanted to share from the trip with you all. Therefore, I published three blog posts from the trip in October! The first was a hotel review of Slottsholmen Hotel in Västervik (or as I call it; the ABBA hotel). I absolutely loved staying at this luxurious suite hotel, and if you are curious about it, you can read my review here!
I’ve also published a post where I cover some of the fun things you can get up to when visiting Småland, Sweden. This part of the country is absolutely beautiful, and has so much to offer. Find this blog post here! Finally, I wrote another hotel review (there were just so many great ones) of Wallby Säteri, which you can read here.
As mentioned above, I spend some time decorating my apartment in October. I fell in love with a few pieces of furniture on a trip earlier this year, and have been obsessing over getting a certain couch ever since. By the end of the summer I finally ordered it, and I couldn’t be happier! So, I wrote a blog post about how I look for (and find) interior and home decor inspiration when I travel, which you will love if you are interested in home decor! Read the post here!
The next couple of posts I published in October were, of course, tips for visiting Norway. I know so many of you find me and my blog because you are planning trips to Norway, and I try to be as helpful as I can on the topic. So, I wrote two posts answering some questions I often get.
- How to get from Bergen Airport to the city centre (covering the fastest, cheapest and most convenient ways)
- What is the best time to see the Northern Lights in Norway (including some of my top Northern Lights tips)
I also created a Facebook group for anyone wanting to visit Norway, get help planning a trip there, or just share tips and advice from their Norway travels! Join it here!
I’ll be in the group too, so it’s the best way of reaching me if you have any Norway questions. I realised that with the number of emails I get asking questions about Norway, this would be a lot better. Often people reach out asking the same questions, but by putting them in the group, I can answer them for all to see! I hope to see you in the group!
Travels in October
I didn’t travel very far in October, which was quite lovely. I spent a weekend with my sister and her family at their cabin, which is a Norwegian tradition once it gets a little cold outside (here are some more hilarious Norwegian things you probably didn’t know). This was about a 4,5-hour drive from Bergen, so I rented a car and was on my way.
Other than that, I spent a weekend in Finland, which was great fun! I went to Åbo (or Turku, in Finnish), which is where Moomin Valley is located! Quite the childhood throwback.
Now, I am looking ahead towards November, and the exciting trips I have planned. I am so lucky and grateful for all the opportunities that come my way, and that I have the opportunity to balance them with more quiet months (like October).
What plans do you have coming up? Tell me in the comments!
