This Eurowings Discover Premium Economy review will hopefully help you decide whether it’s worth the upgrade from normal economy!
In this blog post I want to share a detailed review of my experience with Eurowings Discover/Discover Airlines Premium Economy, shedding light on the perks and nuances that made this upgrade worthwhile.
My friends and I decided to upgrade to Premium Economy because it was cheaper than flying economy (for some reason)! I have no idea how that happened, but am guessing that someone just booked the last few seats in a specific price range in Economy, and surge pricing just worked in our favor.
From the extra legroom to the enhanced in-flight services, every moment spent in the Premium Economy cabin was a delight.

Discover Airlines / Eurowings Discover Premium Economy Review
Eurowings Discover now operates as Discover Airlines, though it may still be referenced by both names (they made the change in September 2023). I’ll be using them a little interchangeably in this post – but know that they are the same airline.
This Lufthansa subsidiary focuses on offering long-haul flights to vacation destinations. I have personally traveled with them to Punta Cana and Cancun in the past. For my Cancun trip I flew Economy, which makes it easier to compare it to my Premium Economy experience on this trip!

Qatar Business Class – Emirates Business Class – SAS Business Class
My flight was in an Airbus A330-300, with Business Class in the front, then Premium Economy at the front of the Economy cabin. You can see the detailed seat map and configuration here.
This is the same type of plane I flew to Cancun in with Discover Airlines/Eurowings Discover.

Seats and Seating in Premium Economy
Discover Airlines’ Premium Economy boasts a pretty superior seating experience compared to standard economy class. With seats that are notably wider and offering up to 50% more legroom, passengers can expect a more comfortable journey. We were actually pleasantly surprised at how much more comfortable the seats were thanks to the extra space.
The additional space between seats allows for a little dashboard with stowed tables, which means that you don’t actually share an arm rest. My friend commented that it was quite nice to sit on a flight and not actually touch the person next to you, and I have to agree.
Moreover, the seats in Premium Economy felt noticeably more inclined than those in regular economy, enhancing the overall comfort. Each seat is equipped with a footrest that can be adjusted, ensuring passengers can tailor their seating position for maximum comfort.
As a result of all of this, we had two very comfortable flights in Premium Economy – especially on our way home. The flight back home to Europe was a night flight, and I actually managed to sleep several hours, thanks to the incline of the seat and the foot rest (and the above-mentioned not having to touch my seat mate).
The set up/configuration in Premium Economy is 2-3-2, as opposed to Economy, which is 2-4-2. So that’s where the extra space comes from.

The food
The food served in Premium Economy exceeded my expectations. Despite the general improvement in airplane meals over the years, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals served onboard.
During our 10-hour flights, we were treated to two warm meals presented on actual glass plates, a touch that elevated the dining experience. I mean, it’s not quite the same as Business Class, but still felt fancier than Economy.
The food itself was really good. Pictured is a tomato pasta main (vegetarian option). The only thing that bothered me was that for both dinners (on both the flights), the side/starter was a shrimp/seafood salad. For vegetarians and people who don’t eat seafood, I feel this should have been without the shrimp. Especially when you order the vegetarian option for your main (we had 2 options for each meal, plus the options from normal economy).
A note on alcohol
Discover Airlines/Eurowings Discover is a budget long-haul airline in many ways. Similar to Ryanair and others, they charge for absolutely everything onboard. When I flew to Cancun last year I was shocked to find that even a blanket had to be purchased at a cost on board.
Alcohol is also not included in Economy. In Premium Economy, however, drinks are included with meals. So, make sure to order your beer and wine at mealtime – as they still come at a charge outside of meals.

Amenities
As mentioned above, in Economy with Discover Airlines you have to pay for absolutely everything. This includes blankets, pillows and drinks.
In Premium Economy, however, a blanket, pillow and amenity kit is waiting for you as you arrive in your seat. This, to me, was worth the upgrade – especially on the overnight flight (I am always cold when I sleep on planes).
The amenity kit was a tote bag (we used it for beach days at our destination) filled with the standard supplies: headphones, ear plugs, an eye mask, a pair of socks and a tooth brush and tooth paste.
The eye mask wasn’t super comfortable, so I ended up using my own (I always travel with this one). The socks were soft, and perfect for extra warmth when sleeping. And I have to say that the blanket was surprisingly soft!

The service
Discover Airlines’ Premium Economy service is truly a cut above normal economy. From the moment you step on board, we could immediately sense the extra care and attention given to passengers in this class. Probably just as a result of there being fewer people tended to per steward/stewardess.
Being greeted with a refreshing drink served in an actual glass upon seating, a gesture usually reserved for Business Class, sets the tone for a premium experience. Of course, we weren’t given Champagne like those in the front, but a refreshing green juice (or water). Still, this does make the experience feel extra luxurious.

Is Discover Airlines/Eurowings Discover Business Class worth it?
Upgrading to Discover Airlines Premium Economy can be a worthwhile investment, especially if you value comfort and rest during your flight. While the decision ultimately depends on the price difference at the time of booking, I found that the upgrade was definitely worth it in my personal experience.
The ability to recline further and enjoy a few hours of quality sleep can make a significant difference in how you feel upon arrival. Whether it’s a long-haul overnight flight or a daytime journey, the extra comfort and space can greatly enhance your overall travel experience.
So, if the opportunity arises and the cost is reasonable, upgrading to Discover Airlines Premium Economy could be a decision you won’t regret. I know my friends and I were definitely impressed by how big the difference was from Economy (to be fair, we were just expecting a little extra legroom, nothing more).
