The Best Country Hotels in Wales
Each of these hotels is incredible in its own way, so they’re listed in random order – because honestly, they all deserve a visit!
Plas Dinas Country House (Caernarfon, North Wales)
Plas Dinas Country House is the kind of place that makes you never want to leave. Once the country retreat of the Armstrong-Jones family (including Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret), it still has that intimate yet grand atmosphere, where every detail makes you feel completely at home – but in the most luxurious way.
From the sherry waiting in your room to the cozy drawing room with a crackling fire, everything at Plas Dinas encourages you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
The Gunroom Restaurant offers an incredible multi-course dining experience, which starts with pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room – one of my favorite things about staying here. It is run by Daniel Ap Geraint, who was most recently on BBC’s Great British Menu!
If you love historic country houses with a warm, welcoming feel, Plas Dinas should be at the top of your list.

Tre-Ysgawen Hall (Anglesey, North Wales)
If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat on Anglesey, Tre-Ysgawen Hall is a hidden gem. This Victorian mansion, tucked away in the countryside, has elegant period interiors, beautiful gardens, and a spa that makes it feel like a true escape.
Anglesey itself is a stunning place to base yourself, with beautiful beaches, coastal walks, and historic sites just a short drive away. After a day of exploring, returning to Tre-Ysgawen’s spa – complete with a pool, sauna, and hydrotherapy suite – feels like pure luxury.
For those looking to combine relaxation with adventure, Tre-Ysgawen Hall is a perfect countryside escape. Anglesey is even included on my list of the best places to base yourself in North Wales!

Penmaenuchaf Hall (Dolgellau, Snowdonia)
Sitting in a beautifully landscaped garden with sweeping views over Snowdonia, Penmaenuchaf Hall offers the perfect mix of grand and intimate. The moment I arrived, I knew this was the kind of place where you could truly unwind.
The gardens are a highlight, and just a short walk up the hill behind the hotel, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It’s the low-effort, big-reward kind of walk that I love. The hotel itself is thoughtfully decorated, with each room having its own unique charm.
If you’re looking for a countryside retreat with easy access to Snowdonia’s hiking trails, this is the place to stay. In fact, the hikes around Snowdonia is on my list of the best things to do in North Wales!

The Falcondale (Lampeter, Mid Wales)
The Falcondale is the definition of a relaxing country escape – a grand house that still feels warm and welcoming. I loved that the atmosphere was never too formal, and I felt completely at ease curling up in the Scarlet Lounge with a book and a glass of wine.
The hotel is set on 14 acres of gardens and woodland, and I spent plenty of time just wandering the grounds and soaking in the peaceful surroundings. With fantastic food, cozy sitting rooms, and luxurious yet homey rooms, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay an extra night – or three.

Lake Country House & Spa (Llangammarch Wells, Mid Wales)
If you’re dreaming of a spa retreat in the Welsh countryside, Lake Country House is the perfect escape. Set on a peaceful lake, this charming manor house offers luxury, relaxation, and stunning outdoor beauty.
The award-winning spa is a huge draw, with indoor and outdoor facilities designed for ultimate relaxation. But beyond the spa, this is a place where you can slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures – afternoon tea in the drawing room, quiet walks around the lake, and leisurely dinners with incredible food.

Peterstone Court (Brecon Beacons, South Wales)
Set in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, Peterstone Court is a beautiful Georgian country house that’s perfect for a countryside getaway. With historic charm, a fantastic restaurant, and a spa housed in the old vaulted cellar, it offers the best of relaxation and adventure.
If you love the outdoors, this is an ideal base for exploring the Brecon Beacons, with hiking, scenic drives, and waterfalls nearby. You can even hike to several fantastic waterfalls in a day!
But honestly? The hotel is so lovely, you might not even want to leave.

Final Thoughts
Each of these beautiful country hotels in Wales offers something special, whether it’s historic charm, a spa retreat, or a cozy countryside escape.
If I had to pick just one for my next trip, it would be Penmaenuchaf Hall – it’s been on my mind for a long time, and I can’t wait to go back. But Plas Dinas Country House and The Falcondale will always be among my absolute favorites – I could never visit Wales without staying at one of them.
No matter which one you choose, you’re in for an unforgettable country house experience in Wales!
