Can you believe we have made it to Week 4 of the Making the Most of Travel series? This week it’s all about travel websites to save you money when traveling or booking a trip, and I am really excited to share some of them with you!
Traveling can be expensive, but there are so many clever travel hacks and tricks out there, which is why I am trying to gather them all in this series, in order to make your next trip as simple as possible! Bear in mind that I may miss some, and would therefore love it if you would leave your favourite tricks and advice in a comment below.
Websites to Save you Money on Travel
This website will be your saviour when trying to save money on flights. You can let Airfare Watchdog know what trip you are planning, and it will e-mail you when the prices drop!
I love Skiplagged! Did you know that sometimes you can actually save money on booking an extra flight? Me neither, until I discovered this website. Basically, if you are flying from Austin, TX to Chicago, you might get a price that is higher than if you book a flight from Austin to New York with Chicago as a stopover city! Skiplagged helps you find these ‘hidden’ stopover cities, and all you have to do is leave the airport in Chicago.
SkyScanner is always the website I check first when looking for flights, especially due to their feature that lets you search for flights to ‘everywhere’. If you are in a rut and looking for a cheap holiday, this feature is all you need.
I also always use my flight booking hack from Week 2 of the series!
Honey is pretty simple; it is a free add-on for your browser that automatically adds coupons and discount codes while you shop online! If it detects a coupon/promo code for a website you are using to book a trip, it will let you know.
Here are more great ways on how to save money for travelling!
I have put these together as they are two great ways save you a lot of money on accommodation. Through AirBnB and Homestay people can rent out their homes, and is usually cheaper than getting a hotel. It is also great if you prefer staying ‘local’, as long as you are prepared for cleaning up after yourself and cooking your own meals.
TravelZoo is a great website that gathers deals on tours and group trips from all across the world! Their experts go through each and every deal in order to verify its worth before it gets published on TravelZoo, making it an extremely safe bet.
Priceline is another website that gathers deals on hotels, flights and rental cars from all across the world in one place, and can actually save you up to 60% on your next trip!
Meet your online wallet for airline miles and travel points! If there is one thing I wish I had done earlier, it is to start keeping track of my airline miles sooner – because I probably could have saved hundreds of dollars if I had! I now know exactly how many points I have in each program, making it easier to be clever when I book my next flight. An honorable mention also goes out to The Points Guy, who has made it his mission to find ways to take advantage of airline miles and reward programs!
