Enjoy a leisurely day at the beach

Of course, you can’t skip a beach day while you are here. If you prefer a little bit of excitement, head to Chaweng, the island’s party center with plenty of restaurants, bars and intoxicating nightlife. If music and thrilling sensations are not your cup of tea, then Maenam, Bophut and Bang Po beaches make perfect options for a peaceful day by the sea, where you can simply enjoy reading a book, listening to the rhythm of the waves and filling your lungs with fresh air.

Explore a nearby island

You don’t have to limit yourself to Samui as there are several offshore islands around. Angthong National Marine Park is amongst the most popular ones with various activities to enjoy. If you like snorkelling or diving, Samui’s diverse marine life will not disappoint. If you prefer to stay on dry land, the park is arguably one of the best hikes in Thailand. 60 minutes of hiking will take you to the peak 500 meters above the sea level. The hike is rewarding for those who love challenges, and the spectacular view from the top is well worth the effort.

Get pampered at a local spa

After a fun day of exploring the island, what is better than indulging yourself in a pampering massage? There are a lot of spa parlours around Koh Samui offering a wide array of treatments and catering to all kinds of budgets. It’s time to unwind, soothe the pain areas and be spoilt with herbal baths, aromatherapy, reflexology session and a wholesome meal afterwards.

Visit the Big Buddha Temple

Located on Koh Fan, a small island off the north-eastern corner of Koh Samui, the Big Buddha Temple has always been amongst the top attractions in the area. It is the first landmark you will see when coming to the island by air. The 12-meter high, golden statue symbolises purity, enlightenment and is a fascinating sight to see. The temple also commands a great view of the island.

Check out Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks

Located on Lamai beach, Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks, also known as Grandpa and Grandma rocks, trigger curiosity amongst visitors as they resemble male and female genitalia respectively. Well, you’ll have to see this for yourself. Legend has it that an old couple (Ta Kreng and Yai Riem) decided to sail to the neighbouring province to ask the daughter of a man named Ta Monglai to marry their son. During the journey, the boat was caught up in a storm and they lost their lives. They turned into rocks to show the would-be wife’s parents the genuineness of their intentions.

Visit Na Muang waterfall

Samui’s beauty is not limited to pristine beaches. Na Muang waterfall is a set of two breath-taking cascades. Na Muang 1 flows into a natural pool where you can take a dip in the water to cool down the tropical heat. Na Muang 2 is about 30 minutes away from the first waterfall and is another enchanting sight where you can have a picnic amidst lush greenery or a relaxing swim.

Take it slow at Fisherman’s village

The idyllic fisherman’s village sits on the tranquil Bophut beach. Being one of the most well-preserved spots in Samui, the village features old wooden Chinese shop-houses, few modern buildings and a distinct Mediterranean feel. There are a number of boutiques for you to have a fair share of shopping, restaurants with local and international delights. After all, it’s a place to slow down, take a leisured stroll and step back in time.

Zip-line through the island at Canopy Adventures

For the adrenaline junkies, you will get your dose of excitement at Canopy Adventures Park. The team will pick you up at the hotel and bring you to the base camp, where a safari ride off-the-beaten-path awaits. When you finally arrive at the destination, be ready for the adventure of your life as you sail through the air, enjoying Samui from the bird’s-eye view – an experience you can’t afford to miss.

Check out a local night market

A night market features plenty of shopping and dining options, where you can find souvenirs to bring back home and try out local street food. There are many night markets around the island, so don’t worry that you are not able to find one. Some of the best markets are Fisherman’s Village Walking Street, Chaweng Night Market, Lamai Night Plaza and Chaweng Walking Street.

Have a good night sleep at a private villa

Staying in a private villa is an experience in itself, where you have the entire property for yourself. A sunset show, a BBQ party, a private massage session by the pool, you can have everything you want at a villa. The best part? It’s the privacy of being in your own home away from home.
